 Reading Journal #6

Hi everyone, today I'm going to share my reading journal about folklore. Happy Reading! 

                Folklore. You must know folklore, right?.Since we started elementary school, we must have read folklore,especially folklore in Indonesia. Me too,I remember reading a folklore (legend) called Tangkuban Perahu.This story comes from West Java,tells the story of Sangkuriang, which is the origin of the formation of Mount Tangkuban Perahu.

 

            Once upon a time there was a girl named Dayang Sumbi, she went to wash her clothes in the river, and then the cloth floated in the stream. She vowed that any man who finds her cloth will be married. Before long came a dog carrying his own cloth. As promised, she married a dog. The dog was named Tumang,which is the incarnation of a god.after marriage they were blessed with a son who was named Sangkuriang. Sangkuriang always plays with Tumang.One day Sangkuriang invited Tumang to hunt animals, but Tumang did not want to hunt. Annoyed at Tumang, Sangkuriang killed him. Sangkuriang told his mother that he killed Tumang.His mother was very angry and threw him out of the house.

        Several years later, Sangkuriang grew into a strong man.One day he met his mother Dayang Sumbi, but he didn't recognize her.He fell in love with Dayang Sumbi, but Dayang Sumbi knew that sangkuriang was his son.Dayang Sumbi asked for the conditions to make her a lake and a boat for 1 night.Sangkuriang agreed then asked for help from spirits to build lakes and boats.Dayang Sumbi, who knew about it, thwarted the development plan. Sangkuriang was angry when he found out about this and kicked the boat he made. This boat then turned into a mountain called Tangkuban Perahu.

        Of all the folklore in Indonesia, my favorite folklore is about the legend of the occurrence of Tangkuban Perahu Mountain.The thing that I like after reading the legend I finally know the origin of a place and know the moral message of the story.I think folklore is the story of people who come from various regions which elevates their life and culture.By introducing the culture and life of everyone in various regions, we can enrich the customs and heritage of the people.
